Props

We came up with the newspaper and the letter as our first idea of props because we wanted the newspaper element to be like the film opening sequences we watched in the film ‘Seven’ where the scene is shot in point of view, with a person cutting out pieces of newspaper, nonetheless we got the idea of following the process a letter takes, from the film ‘Lord of War’, with the life of a bullet, also shot in point of view of the bullet.

Throughout are film we used various props, throughout are movie such as the letter and the paperboy bag to connote to the character of the Postman, these props were key to creating that character, Secondly we used the newspaper and scissors in the first part of the movie, which was used to create mystery and suspense at the start, these props were the most useful we used, as these props were involved in the central part of our movie. Furthermore, we then used the lighter which was going to be used to burn the letter.

Concluding, the majority of the products we used all had significant parts and roles to play in are film, because are film was based around props.

The film was centred on point of view shots, where a character isn’t visible; therefore this makes the props the main focus in the frame, and what the viewer’s eyes are drawn to.

Health And Safety

In order to make our film quickly and more importantly safely we made sure that we did everything carefully. For instance we made sure that we did not run with anything in our hands, by this i mean we did not run with tripods in our hands as this could have hit something or someone. We also made sure that there was nothing in the way when we were filming so therefore the actors would not fall over at any time. We also made sure that everybody that was included in the filming process knew exactly what was happening in the film so this mad everybody more prepared. in addition as one of the scences in the film included us using a lighter and therefore fire we made sure that when we used the lighter it was outdoors and therefore there was a less of a chance of a fire. Finally everybody involved in the production knew where the fire exits were in the room so in case of a fire alarm in the middle of our production we all knew where to go and also three was a first aid kit in the room in case of an injury.

As a result by all of these simple procedures in place there was less possibility of any accidents happening in the process of our filming.

Location

For our opening sequence that has the genre thriller we had to decide a location of where the opening sequence that we are going to create was going to be. As a result we did some research as we all thought that this would be the best way to decide a location. We also watched other thriller opening sequences and we saw what locations they were in. As a result we concluded that as the genre thriller has connotations of creating suspense we thought of ways that our opening sequence location could create suspense. Finally we chose to make sure that some of the opening sequence was set in a dark room. As a result this will create much more tension in the opening sequence.

Below I will go into more detail about all the different locations in the opening sequences.

Dark Room
A section of the opening sequence that we are going to make is going to be set in a dark claustrophobic room. We are doing this when the man is cutting out letters out of the newspaper. The reason for this is that as this is the main section of the opening sequence that is going to create tension towards the audience we thought that a way to create even more tension is to set it in a dark room. As a result as the dark has connotations of bleakness and horror we thought that this will be a great addition to our opening sequence to create suspense. Also we chose to set this section of the opening sequence in the dark, as this also seems more relevant to the storyline.

Street / Walking Towards A House Door
Another location for our opening sequence is a street. This location is going to be seen when the postman is delivering the letter. There reason why we have located this part of the opening sequence in the street is because when a postman delivers letters they deliver them to the recipient’s door. As a result by the audience seeing the postman delivering the letter to the door this will make the opening sequence look more realistic and therefore when the audience is watching our opening sequence this will make the opening sequence look more realistic and therefore they will continue to watch on.

Park
The only other location in our opening sequence is that of a park. The beginning of the opening sequence is being filmed in a park. The camera shot will be an establishing wide shot. This is done to set the sequence for the viewers and as a park is usually large and the camera is focusing only on one part this is emphasizing the isolation. As a result this is creating tension and the audience are now feeling more suspense and they are drawn more into the film.

In conclusion as a group we think that these locations will create suspense and more tension in the opening sequence that we create and as a result this will make the audience like our opening sequence more as they will be more involved.
